Hi there! We’re Brad and Janet Harker, and we’re so glad you’ve stopped by to learn about what we do.
Back in 2004, we founded Summit Farm Rescue to create a safe haven for Alaskan dog breeds like Huskies and Malamutes. Our mission is simple: to save as many dogs as possible and give them the love, care, and forever homes that they deserve.
We’ve always had a soft spot for animals, but it was our first rescue—a scrappy Siberian Husky named Joe Mama—that changed everything.
Joe Mama was abandoned, malnourished, and scared, but with patience and care, we watched him blossom into the most loyal, loving companion. That experience ignited our passion for helping other dogs like him, and eventually, Summit Farm Rescue was born.
At Summit Farm Rescue, we believe every dog deserves a second chance. Our mission is to reduce the number of homeless dogs, improve their welfare, and educate our community about the unique challenges and joys of owning Alaskan breeds.
These dogs are incredible—they’re intelligent, energetic, and deeply loving—but they also have specific needs that not every family is prepared for. Through education, we aim to set both dogs and their adopters up for success.
Since our humble beginnings, Summit Farm Rescue has saved over 2,620 dogs—and we’re just getting started! Every adoption is a celebration, and we owe our success to the incredible support of our donors, volunteers, and adopters.

Each breed has its own unique personality and care requirements. Check out our Caring page for tips on how to keep them happy and healthy!
We couldn’t do this without you—our supporters, adopters, and fellow animal lovers. Every donation, every volunteer hour, and every adoption makes a world of difference.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for believing in our mission and helping us give these amazing dogs a second chance.
